Re-interpreting a Classic: Linear Jumping Hour and Retrograde Minutes
The Jump Hour and the Retrograde Minute Hand have to move at exactly the same time, instantaneously. An amazing feat of high watchmaking.
The Jump Hour and the Retrograde Minute Hand have to move at exactly the same time, instantaneously.
At the heart of the Récital 15 is its asymmetric dial layout, a BOVET hallmark that gives each indication its own space and relief. The main time display is deliberately displaced from the center, freeing room for additional, bespoke decoration.
Mechanically, the caliber is designed to offer both visual theatre and robust chronometry. A generous 5-day power reserve allows the movement to run for days without winding. The jumping hour and retrograde minute offer time theater once an hour, when the hour digit flips to the next hour and the minute hand snaps back to zero.
As with every Récital, the Récital 15 is also a showcase of BOVET’s finishing. The movement is dressed with a mix of polished bevels, graining, and Côtes de Genève, while the dial side may incorporate traditional techniques such as hand‑engraving, lacquer work, or even engraved sculptures, depending on the specific version. The case frames the movement as if it were a miniature stage, and the exhibition back completes the experience: whichever side you turn to, you’re met with a coherent, three‑dimensional composition rather than a hidden “functional” side and a “show” side.
